A successful applicant will be able to design and build software that meets the needs of the business and improve upon it through operational ownership. Use the right tools for the job, and build software that works well and efficiently within the overall system architecture. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Analyses requirements/ user stories to appropriately support design activities
  • Performs all technical aspects of software development for assigned applications, including developing prototypes, writing new code and creating API's
  • Performs hands-on architecture, design, and development of systems 
  • Functions as Senior member of an agile team and helps drive consistent development practices - tools, common components, and documentation 
  • Typically spends a minimum of 60% of time writing code and testing, and remainder of time collaborating with stakeholders through ongoing product/platform releases 
  • Designs and builds integration components and interfaces in collaboration with Architects and Infrastructure Engineers as necessary 
  • Contributes to decisions about tools, methods and approaches 
  • Performs unit and assembly testing of software components including the design, implementation, evaluation, and execution of unit and assembly tests 
  • Conducts code reviews and builds test automation 
  • Debugs software components, identifies, fixes and verifies remediation of code defects 
  • Performs ongoing refactoring of code and continuously improves product 
  • Identifies opportunities to adopt innovative technologies 
  • Provides continuous support for ongoing application availability 
  • Works closely with product owners on blueprints and annual planning of feature sets that impact multiple platforms and products 
  • Works with product owners to prioritize features for ongoing sprints and managing a list of technical requirements based on industry trends, new technologies, known defects, and issues

Required skills:

  • ·Demonstrated experience leading teams of engineers
  • Hands-on expertise with application design, software development and automated testing 
  • Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer science engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • Leads specification and design of large or complex systems 
  • Reviews others' systems designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple systems and technology 
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and exploit them to their optimal potential
  • Evaluates and undertakes impact analysis on major design options and assesses and manages associated risks 
  • Takes technical responsibility for all stages in the software development process 
  • Provides advice, guidance and assistance to Engineers and peers as required 
  • Takes part in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues' work 
  • Demonstrates expertise in system components and configuration to enable functionality design that meets American Express Technology standards and minimizes impacts to upstream and downstream systems 
  • Expertly skilled in the agile delivery methodology
  • Experience in Enterprise JAVA/J2EE Technologies using Core Java, Spring Core, Spring JDBC template, Hibernate, Spring Batch etc.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of API Design, Implementation and Security and Microservice architecture
  • Experience in Enterprise JAVA/J2EE Technologies using Core Java, Spring Core, Spring JDBC template, Hibernate, Spring Batch etc.
  • Good Understanding of TDD and BDD frameworks 
  • Good Understanding of Version Control System i.e. GIT, etc. using tools like Source Tree, GIT Bash, Bitbucket etc.
  • Good Understanding and working knowledge of Build Automation Tools and Frameworks
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken is essential 
  • Good relationship building skills with both Technology and Product Owner teams

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits

The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we’ll consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
