The Regional Medical Director, US and Canada will work on the Global Health Services team in Colleague Total Rewards and Well-being (CTRW). As a key team member, this person will be responsible for the overall well-being across the region and leading the strategy for the award-wining, best in class Colleague Experience Group (HR) programs, creating a culture of health for colleagues and their families at American Express. From collaborating across markets to build a strong First Aid/AED program, to improving the health and productivity of our colleagues, this role is critical in reinforcing American Express’ culture and values.

The Regional Medical Director, US & Canada will also provide leadership and vision to the clinical strategy for the company’s onsite Wellness Centers, regional health resources across our US/Canada markets, Business Continuity (BCP) support and provide guidance for the safe reopening of our offices. 

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Lead a medical team of Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Administrative Assistants in 5 US and Canada onsite Wellness Centers delivering safe, high-quality patient care and emergency response that meets recognized standards of excellence.
  • Work collaboratively with executives and clinical leaders to develop and implement strategic plans that elevate the quality and efficiency of care delivery.
  • Deliver services that provide access for colleagues to support prevention and compliance in their overall health care needs such as administration of business travel consultation and vaccinations, Allergy shots, phlebotomy services. 
  • Ensures standards of patient care through Quality Assurance monitoring
  • Ensure regulatory compliance requirements are up to date and executed in each department such as OSHA mandated programs, Medical Waste, Quality Assurance monitoring, CLIA and medical licensing.  
  • Develop and delivery evidence-based health and wellness programs that foster a culture of continuous improvement and health such as annual physicals, screening programs, annual seasonal flu clinics and collaboration with 3rd party providers to provide extended services.  
  • Plan and operates all aspects of the clinics’ needs within approved budget.
  • Global Program support: Collaborate with 3rd party provider to delivery medical consultation and international travel emergency support for all colleagues while on business travel.
  • Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures that align with the organization's vision and objectives.  Review department standing operating procedures, update and share changes with staff.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to develop and maintain effective clinical performance metrics.
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making at the executive level, working closely with other senior leaders.
  • Act as a liaison between medical staff and other departments, including finance, human resources, and legal
  • Stay current with the latest trends and innovations in healthcare, and foster a culture of ongoing learning and development among the medical staff
  • Promotes patient satisfactions through department utilization surveys and handles escalated issues or inquires.
  • Addresses staff issues involving all healthcare and non-clinical personnel
  • Provide leadership and support for medical staff recruitment, retention, professional development, and performance management
  • Electronic Medical Records:  Provide vendor oversight, develop, and maintain system to capture utilization and outcomes for reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or a Medical Doctor (MD) degree or equivalent; all with a strong occupational medicine industry experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience with managing third party Occupational Health providers and/or vendors that support the clinical operations of clinics.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing medical staff and driving clinical excellence
  • Demonstrated experience in strategy development, execution and delivery of outcomes
  • Adept at navigating nonclinical company and clinical regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends and develop improvement plans.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Strong presentation skills.
  • Demonstrates a good balance of leadership and direction and has strong skills in managing diverse teams.
  • Establishes clear vision, opportunities and, advocates for team members.
  • Leads by example and steps in to support team
  • Manage department budgets and administrative roles.
  • Ability to work flexible hours across different time zones.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
