Imagine yourself at the heart of the City's financial operations, where every dollar you help manage contributes to the well-being of the community. You work closely with the Finance Director and City Manager to ensure that the city's financial resources are allocated efficiently, transparently, and strategically. You are the Budget Coordinator, a key player in La Marque's annual budget process, monitoring city-wide departmental budgets, preparing financial reports, and ensuring that the city's goals and resources are aligned.

Your Day-to-Day:

You begin your day by assisting the Finance Director with the City's annual budget. Compiling budget submissions from various departments, you analyze last year's figures against this year's projections. Your ability to identify trends and forecast revenues and expenditures helps guide the city through the budgeting process smoothly. Your keen attention to detail ensures every budget aligns with city policies and complies with accepted accounting principles.

Collaboration is a key part of your role. You maintain open communication with department heads, ensuring they are kept in the loop regarding their budget status. You often find yourself crunching numbers to ensure capital projects are on track and helping departments strategize when costs or revenues fluctuate.

When it's time to prepare for the annual audit, you're the go-to person for gathering data and supporting the Finance Director. You help update the statistical and introductory sections of the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), ensuring everything complies with GAAP and GASB standards. When auditors arrive, you're ready with accurate, well-organized records.

Your expertise extends beyond the budget process-you also handle daily and routine tasks. You prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to give City Management and City Council an accurate picture of the City's financial health. Whether it's preparing journal entries, assisting with unclaimed property, or ensuring compliance with financial regulations, your role is essential to keeping the City's finances in order.

What You Bring:

You're more than just good with numbers-you're someone who can tell a story with them. A degree in accounting or a related field has provided you with a strong foundation, and your 5-10 years of experience in municipal fund accounting make you a seasoned professional in budgeting. You have a solid understanding of GAAP, GASB, and state/local fiscal regulations.

You're comfortable working with spreadsheets, crunching data, and presenting clear financial reports to City Management and the City Council. Your eye for detail ensures that financial reports are accurate, and your ability to communicate complex financial information makes it easy for non-financial professionals to understand the story behind the numbers.

The Environment You'll Work In:

You thrive in a structured environment but are flexible enough to handle the pressures that come with working in finance. Whether you're collaborating with city departments, auditors, or preparing critical budget reports, you are constantly aware of how your role supports the City's ability to serve its citizens. You know that your work is more than just numbers-it's about helping make decisions that improve the quality of life for every resident of La Marque.

Your role doesn't stop when the budget is finalized or the audit is complete. You are also prepared to support the City's emergency operations. As a Tier 2 employee, you know that when roads are accessible after an emergency, you're one of the essential employees called in to ensure the City's financial operations remain steady and secure.

Benefits:

In addition to playing a vital role in shaping the City's financial future, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical Insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield): Comprehensive health coverage, with the city covering the entire premium for employees.
  • Dental and Vision Insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield & EyeMed): Affordable options for you and your dependents, with vision coverage through EyeMed.
  • Life Insurance (MetLife): Basic life insurance, with additional coverage options available for you to customize based on your needs.
